Amalia Mayita Mendez resides in New York City where she works as a freelance photographer for newspapers and other publications.
She received her Masters of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design with a Presidential Scholarship. For many years she has worked as a Photojournalist in several newspapers in New York City. Several years ago she was named one of the 30 under 30 photographers to watch by Photo District News and she has received awards for her photographic essays. She has focused her attention on her spiritual practice, studying with her teacher Derek O’Neill. She is a Rising Star Teacher and Practitioner, a Prema Birthing Practitioner and a qualified teacher of the More Truth Will Set You Free workshops. Her business SUNDARAM can be summed up in a quote given by her teacher,
“…to allow God to witness God in action”. Her photographic and spiritual practices are intrinsically linked and it is her goal to allow beings the opportunity to truly see themselves through the healing act of being photographed. The photographs themselves are imbued with a loving energy and are a reminder to the subject of their own God given essence.
